On the main floor, the dwelling consisted of three bedrooms, two baths, a large kitchen, a separate dining room, (where in the early years Josephine and Estelle would cook dinners for the vacationers), and a sitting room with large windows overlooking Lake Nokomis. Later, the Gintowts expanded the lower level, adding a tavern overlooking the lake.

Thank you for posting. I have have fond memories of vacations with my parents, maternal grandparents brother and two sisters. Beautiful lake with fishing, swimming and boating. The smell of the pines was the best. Enjoyed playing Michigan Rummmy with family. Visitors wrote their experiences inside the bedroom wardrobe cabinets, including my great grandmother Millie Scheldrup Jacobsen.
ReplyDeleteKnown by all as "Spittin' John's" Resort, as John was a fixture tending bar in the cabinet, chewing tobacco and constantly spitting.
Nobody called it "Pleasant Point'. John and Josie were great folks, and "Spittin' John's beats Disney World any day. Interested in reading how they bought the place as a young couple back in the '20's. Would enjoy reading any comments others may have. Mike Nelson-Madison WI and Oak Park IL
